The Short Film Master Class is geared towards directors but anyone interested in the form should attend, from writers, actors, producers and crew to learn more and connect with others in their community. Frances Bodomo grew up in Ghana, Norway, and Hong Kong before moving to New York City to study film at Columbia University (BA) and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts (MFA). Her two short films, Boneshaker (2013) and Afronauts (2014), both premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to play at film festivals including the Berlinale, Telluride, and SXSW.Afronauts received the Grand Jury Prize for Short Film at Dallas International Film Festival, IFFBoston, BlackStar Film Festival, and New Orleans Film Festival. Bodomo has been named a Sundance Institute/Alfred P. Sloan Fellow.
Mike Plante has programmed movies for film festivals since 1993 and at the Sundance Film Festival since 2001, where he is a Senior Programmer for Short Film. He manages the short film program of 10 programmers and over 8,000 short film submissions each year. Through the year he also runs the Sundance Short Film Master Class and books the Shorts On Tour, a short film program that plays in over 70 cities in the US, Canada and England. As a filmmaker he produces documentaries, most recently Giuseppe Makes A Movie (2014), which was released to theaters, VOD and blu-ray by Cinelicious Pics.
Jennifer Reeder constructs personal fiction films about relationships, trauma and coping. Her award-winning narratives borrow from a range of forms including after school specials, amateur music videos and magical realism. These films have shown consistently around the world, including the Sundance Film Festival, The Berlin Film Festival, The Venice Biennale and The Whitney Biennial. Her awards include several that have qualified her films for Oscar nomination. She won a Creative Capital Grant in Moving Image in 2015 and short film funding from the Adrienne Shelly Foundation in 2016.
